Music and life

Hi. It's been a while. Most of you know the story. My laptop was stolen a while ago and I was without a computer for quite some time. I now have a MacBook Pro, and it is pure magic. I can't say enough about this machine. If I ever meet the douche who stole my laptop, I'm going to punch them in the face then thank them.

The loss of all my files and the discovery of the website www.lastfm.com (thanks Sarah!) has led me to a lot of fantastic music. Two albums in particular – 'Friend and Foe' by Menomena (I had this on my old computer, but can't stop listening to it), and 'Strawberry Jam' by Animal Collective – are two of the greatest albums I've ever heard. Seriously, they're both masterpieces as far as I'm concerned. The funny thing about Menomena is I had that album on my iPod for months and didn't think much of it at first. I decided to give it another shot one day and something just clicked. Music should never be judged until it is listened to through a good pair of headphones, with the time and attention it deserves. It makes me wonder how much amazing stuff people miss out on in life because they don't have the patience for it at first.

The NHL playoffs start Wednesday. See you in 2 months.

do you even know what electrolytes are? yeah, they're what plants crave!

YouTube is possibly the most amazing and dangerous invention since the dawn of the internet. Not only can it turn any average dork into a celebrity or lead to brilliant new movie marketing, it can teach you how to charge your iPod using only electrolytes and an onion! I also can't imagine how many man hours have been lost in offices all over the world because of this site. I bet if it wasn't for YouTube, the States would have found Osama by now.

I bought a new cell phone this weekend. It looks like this.

I've caught the online poker bug. I know, like 3 years after everyone else. I just had probably the best game of my life, making about 7000 chips in a half hour. Part of me wants to start playing for money, but the other part of me thinks it will destroy me. I have a feeling I will be looking back at this post in a few months, broke as hell, crying into my keyboard.

I'm not mathematician, but I have concluded that Hockey + Beer + Rock Band + Friends = Fun. It's science. No wait, I just said it was math.

A couple recommendations: CBC's new show JPod. It's based on the Douglas Coupland book. If you haven't heard of him, he writes books that you should read. The show is very funny and dark, this is the website: http://www.cbc.ca/jpod/. They have an archive of every episode aired so far, so you can watch them at your leisure. Quite handy.

The end of another weekend. The week looms.

hi again

It all started when I poured juice into my cereal.

hi.

After a lengthy and unexplained absence, I have a blog again. Don't worry, I won't bore you with the trivial details of my day-to-day life. Sometimes I have random thoughts and maybe this way I will start to document them somehow.

Actually, what really started it off was when my alarm didn't go off. Yeah, I woke up confused and have been out of sorts all day. THEN I started to pour juice in my Honey Nut Cheerios. It was gross but I ate it anyway. Sorry, I said no trivial details...Shit.

The internet overwhelms me, yet I embrace it, or I try to. I like this Douglas Coupland quote: "The problem is, after a week of intense googling, we’ve started to burn out on knowing the answer to everything. God must feel that way all the time. I think people in the year 2020 are going to be nostalgic for the sensation of feeling clueless." It's true. I am on wikipedia and google constantly at work, finding out random facts about random things that I really have no business knowing. Then I reiterate them and sound smart in social crowds. I look up comedies on wikiquote and sit at my desk and laugh as I relive the funniest moments. I've really started to like this band Menomena and within 5 minutes at a computer I knew everything about them. It's kind of sick but it's also a lot of fun.

Menomena is an amazing band with an awful website: menomena.com

hello neighbour

This is my new blog. As of now I am unsure of how I will make use of it, but by all means stay tuned, and please take a few moments to answer the poll question to your right.
